Getting Started

Get up and running with Idioscript in minutes. This guide walks you through creating your first project and building your Story Bible and Style Fingerprint.

Step 1: Create a Project

A project in Idioscript contains all the documents, story context, and style fingerprints for a single work — typically a novel, series, or collection of related writing.

Creating Your Project

  1. Click New Project from your dashboard
  2. Give your project a name (e.g., "My Novel" or "Blog Posts 2024")
  3. Add an optional description
  4. Choose your privacy mode (Standard or Derived-Only)
  5. Click Create Project

Privacy Modes

When creating a project, you can choose between two privacy modes:

  • Standard Mode — Your documents are stored securely. You can view, edit, and re-analyze them anytime.
  • Derived-Only Mode — Only extracted data (story elements, style fingerprints) is stored. Original document content is deleted after processing. Maximum privacy, but you can't re-read or re-analyze the originals.

Step 2: Upload Documents

Upload your writing samples — chapters, scenes, blog posts, or any text you want Idioscript to learn from. The more you upload, the better your Style Fingerprint and Story Bible will be.

Uploading Documents

  1. Open your project and go to the Documents tab
  2. Click Upload Document or drag files into the upload zone
  3. Select your files (TXT, DOCX, MD, or PDF)
  4. Confirm copyright ownership
  5. Click Upload

Supported File Formats

  • .txt — Plain text files
  • .docx — Microsoft Word documents
  • .md — Markdown files
  • .pdf — PDF documents (text will be extracted)

Tips for Better Results

  • Upload at least 5,000-10,000 words for a good Style Fingerprint
  • Include diverse samples (dialogue, description, action) for comprehensive analysis
  • For fiction, upload complete chapters rather than fragments
  • Drafts are fine — they don't need to be polished

Step 3: Copyright Verification

When uploading documents, you'll be asked to confirm:

  • You are the author or have rights to use this content
  • The content doesn't infringe on any third-party copyrights
  • You understand how Idioscript will process the content

This verification is required for each upload. Idioscript never accepts content you don't have rights to use.

Step 4: Build Your Story Bible

Once you've uploaded documents, you can build your Story Bible — a structured understanding of your story's characters, locations, events, and world.

Building Your Story Bible

  1. Go to the Bible tab in your project
  2. Click Build Memory
  3. Wait for processing (a few minutes depending on document size)
  4. Explore your extracted characters, locations, events, and more

Step 5: Create Your Style Fingerprint

Your Style Fingerprint captures your unique writing voice — vocabulary, rhythm, sentence structure, tone, and patterns.

Creating a Style Fingerprint

  1. Go to the Styles tab in your project
  2. Click Create Style Fingerprint
  3. Wait for analysis (may take a few minutes for large documents)
  4. View your fingerprint details and example snippets
